This project engages middle and high school students across Israel in hands-on sleep research. Students collect and analyze their own sleep data, learning about biological rhythms, health, and scientific reasoning. By combining citizen science with education, the project raises awareness of sleep’s importance for well-being, while building a national database that could inform future school policies. Since its launch, nearly 4,000 students from 76 schools have participated, and in 2023, the project was recognized as a finalist in the international Falling Walls competition. Through active participation, students gain scientific skills, explore personal and societal health implications, and contribute to the advancement of evidence-based education and health initiatives.
This project was selected as part of the University’s 2024 Call for Impact Projects, launched by the Division of Innovation & Sustainability to promote research and educational initiatives with significant social and environmental impact. Following a highly competitive selection process, each awarded project received ₪50,000 for a 24-month period to support interdisciplinary collaboration and translate academic knowledge into real-world outcomes.
