The University of Haifa has recently secured three competitive grants from the Israel Innovation Authority, totaling approximately NIS 3 million. Combined with the University’s own investment, these initiatives represent an overall commitment of nearly NIS 6 million to advancing high-tech training, innovation, and inclusive growth, particularly within Arab society.
The grants support three complementary programs that reflect the University of Haifa’s distinctive approach to innovation: bridging academic research, entrepreneurship, industry collaboration, and societal impact.
1. Challenge to Innovation: Advancing Health and Well-Being
At the forefront is Challenge to Innovation, a three-year entrepreneurship and venture incubation program focused on addressing real-world challenges in Israel’s healthcare system. Led by Haifa Innovation Labs (HIL) in collaboration with Clalit Health Services, the program brings together graduate students from diverse disciplines alongside healthcare professionals.
With a total budget of NIS 1.8 million, the program combines hands-on training, multidisciplinary teamwork, and close engagement with clinical environments. Participants develop innovative, scalable solutions to pressing healthcare challenges, translating academic research and field expertise into practical tools, technologies and services that improve health outcomes and strengthen healthcare systems. The program reflects the University’s commitment to Health & Well-Being through applied innovation with measurable societal impact.
2. BridgeTech – Pathways to High-Tech Employment
A three-year initiative led by the Office of the Rector, BridgeTech is designed to train and integrate students from the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences into the high-tech workforce, with a strong emphasis on Arab students. With a budget of nearly NIS 3 million, the program provides professional training, industry exposure and direct employment pathways – strengthening diversity and inclusion within Israel’s innovation ecosystem.
3. Bio-Convergence Venture Incubation Program
Led jointly by the School of Marine Sciences and the Haifa Innovation Labs (HIL), in collaboration with the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, this one-year program focuses on early-stage venture creation at the intersection of biology and technology. With a total budget of NIS 700,000, the program aims to incubate eight new ventures combining marine biology, aquaculture, and advanced computational expertise, in close partnership with industry stakeholders.
