Driving Scalable Impact in Mental Health Through Innovation and Partnership

The Haifa Mental Health Innovation Summit 2025, hosted by the University of Haifa, marked a significant milestone in advancing systemic, scalable solutions in the field of mental health. The summit convened leading voices from academia, healthcare, government, industry, and civil society to accelerate innovation that responds to urgent societal needs while strengthening long-term community resilience.

Held alongside the Demo Day of the HIL FUND Accelerator, operated by Haifa Innovation Labs (HIL) – the University’s hub for innovation and entrepreneurship – the summit reflected a holistic approach to impact: translating academic research and frontline experience into actionable solutions with real-world applicability.

Initiated jointly by the University of Haifa and Carmel Economic Corporation, and in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Israel’s healthcare system, the defense sector, Mental Health Innovations IL, the Israel Innovation Authority, and additional public and private stakeholders, the event brought together more than 180 participants committed to shaping the future of mental health care in Israel and beyond.

At the heart of the summit was a strong focus on impact-driven innovation. Participants were introduced to 20 pioneering mental health ventures, alongside six accelerator-backed projects, each designed to address critical gaps in prevention, care delivery, accessibility, and support for patients and families. These initiatives combine rigorous academic research, advanced technology, and socially responsible entrepreneurship—creating solutions with clear potential for scale, sustainability, and measurable impact.

In their remarks, University President Prof. Gur Alroey and Prof. Ofer Arazy, Head of Sustainability and Innovation, articulated the University of Haifa’s long-term vision: leveraging academic excellence and interdisciplinary research to drive inclusive growth, strengthen social systems, and generate lasting societal value.
Tamir Frank, CEO of Carmel Economic Corporation, underscored the importance of deep collaboration between academia and industry in positioning Haifa as an international center for health, sustainability, and innovation.

The program also featured compelling short talks by Dr. Liat Helfman and Prof. Pavel Goldstein, demonstrating how research-informed insights can lead to practical, evidence-based interventions with transformative social outcomes. The summit concluded with presentations of the six HIL FUND accelerator ventures—initiatives shaped through an intensive development process and grounded in lived experience, empathy, and a commitment to improving quality of life for individuals and communities affected by mental health challenges.

The Haifa Mental Health Innovation Summit 2025 exemplifies the University of Haifa’s role as an anchor institution for social impact -one that bridges science and practice, innovation and compassion and local challenges with global relevance.

The University of Haifa continues to expand its capacity to transform knowledge into action and to scale solutions that advance mental well-being, equity and resilience for current and future generations.
